On the occasion of the first tree-planting festival held in Ome City, Tokyo, Kawai Gyokudo was approached by Empress Kojun, and later presented her with this painting inscribed with waka poetry he had written himself as a token of gratitude. Gyokudo also taught the empress how to paint, and this work is a testimony to their close relationship. (「The Imperial Family and Miyazaki Prefecture」2021)
