Nukina Sho'o ( 1778-1863 ) was a Confucianist, calligrapher and painter of the Awa Province ( Tokushima prefecture ) at the end of the Edo period. These scrolls are considered to have been written as a pair, judging by the mounting, style and paper. It is a seven-word poem by Toenmei, and a five-word poem by Toho. The seven-word lines poem has an inscription dated June, 1858. (「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003)
