A pictorial record printed with the highest quality lithograph techniques at the time, by the Printing Bureau of the Ministry of Finance, which acted as a part of the industrial development policy during the Meiji period when modernization was promoted by the government. 24 of the Shosoin Treasures are illustrated with chromolithograph prints, from the results of the investigations carried out from May to September 1879 (2 volumes, 12 objects each). The prints splendidly ex-press the colors and sense of texture which could not be reproduced by the photography of the time.(「Passing Down the Shosoin Treasures 」2019)
