Confectionary bowl with cherry blossom design

print

Kurokawa Eisho

  • Meiji period, 1893
  • hammered silver

Crafts – Metalworks

Layers of cherry blossoms are expressed using various subtle shades of rogin, an alloy of silver and copper differing in color by changing the ratio of the metals. It is a refined work showing the difference of texture by fine hammer marks throughout the outer surface, compared to the polished surface inside of the bowl. (「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.2」2003)
