Paintings – Japanese / Asian Paintings

This is Shimomura's representative work of his youth, depicting Empress Komyo, a devoted Buddhist, offering autumn grasses to Buddha joining her palms together. Empress Komyo is expressed with grace and dignity under the stable composition of the picture, by loose lines and soft tone of colors learned from old paintings. (「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.2」2003)
