Autumn Eggplants and Foxes
- Showa period, 1932
- color on silk
- hanging scroll
Paintings – Japanese / Asian Paintings
Nishimura established a quite unique animal expression from the fusion of the styles of his two teachers, Kishi Chikudo with realistic painting style and Takeuchi Seiho with emotionalist brushwork catching the momentary expressions of his objects. This is known as his best masterpiece. Although based on elaborate sketches of foxes observed many times at a zoo, his home, and in fields, it also succeeded to form a strong dramatic effect with an air of refinement and fantasy with light emotionalist brushwork.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.2」2003)
