In this painting, an audacious dragon is depicted on the raging sea and splashing waves, rendered in different gradations of ink to create a powerful image. Gejo Keikoku was a painter from Yonezawa (Yamagata Prefecture) who also worked for the Ministry of the Navy and specialized in traditional painting styles. This work was purchased after it had been exhibited at an art exhibition in 1907.(「Imperial Splendor:Artworks Related to the Tohoku Region」2021)
