Pair of cloisonné vases with design of cherry blossoms
Pair of cloisonné vases with design of cherry blossoms
A pair of vases with cherry blossoms expressed in musen shippo (wireless enamel), by Namikawa Sosuke, one of the first Imperial Court Artists designated in the shippo division. The composition suggestive of a pair of hanging scrolls in Nihonga painting, with the branch drooping from the rim on the left vase, and the branch rising up from the ground on the right vase. Furthermore, they show features typical of Namikawa who pursued painting expressions in shippo techniques, such as branches seeming like a reproduction of ink brushwork, and cherry blossoms depicted with slight shades of white.(「Flowers of Felicitations」2019)
