Portrait of Kakinomoto no Hitomaro

Portrait of Kakinomoto no Hitomaro

Since Kakinomoto no Hitomaro, the representative poet of the Man'yoshu Anthology was praised as a sage of poetry during the Heian period, he became deified within poetry, and many portraits were painted. This painting is one of the representative pieces, and is attributed to Rokkaku Jakusai judging from the minute details.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003)
