Ryukyu-style lacquered stationery box and ink-stone box
A white mitsudae ( litharge ) coating is applied to the surface of both the calligraphy paper box and the writing box, and a pavilion and human figures either farming, fishing playing the game of Igo, etc., are the themes depicted in hakue ( gold fail picture ) technique. Butterflies, bamboo and treasures on the side of the lid of the calligraphy paper box and peach blossom branches on the side of the writing box are all auspicious designs.
