Gold weights
Gold weights
The lumps of gold said to have been stored by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the Osaka castle. Gold weighing 375 grams cast in the shape of bundo (Japanese weight ) come in five patterns, and these are three of them. One is small flowers and paulownia pattern, one is the Kichi ( good fortune ) character on a cloth pattern ground, and one is the Tei character on stone surface ground. Presented by Tokugawa Yoshiakira in 1900, they are precious articles of which only a few pieces are known other than the three hundred of the same type transferred to the Bank of Japan from the same family in 1904. （「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003）
