Folding Screen with Plants of the Four Seasons and Magnetic Insects on Metal Panels
The rectangular iron insets in this wooden screen are decorated with plants of the four seasons in powdered precious metals (maki-e). They are accompanied by magnetic ornaments fashioned to resemble a horsefly, snails, a beetle, and a bagworm moth. The magnets attached to them are made of KS steel, a Japanese invention that was the most powerful magnetic material at the time.(「Wild Wonders: The Animal Kingdom in the Imperial Collections」2024)
