Tsuchida Bakusen studied under Takeuchi Seiho, and followed his teacher’s emphasis on sketching and painting from nature. His method of painting was to make several lines in his rough sketches, and finally achieving one line that expresses the essence of his motif. After such an elaborate process, this work with all unnecessary elements removed, can be considered with no exaggeration, as a completed version of modern paintings of flowers and grasses. It was highly evaluated at the 10th Exhibition of the Teiten(Imperial Fine Arts Academy Exhibition) in 1922, and was purchase by the Ministry of the Imperial Household.(「Flowers of Felicitations」2019)
