Purple velvet table cloth with embroidered flower design

In 1887, Prince Komatsu Akihito visited Sultan Abdul Hamid II of the Ottoman Empire . In return the Emperor Meiji received this velvet tablecloth along with an official letter, medals, and tobacco utensils. The chrysanthemum crest appears to be a nod to the Imperial Coat of Arms and is placed in the center. The floral arabesque design is embroidered using several types of gold thread and sequins. （「Wakyama and the Imperial Family」2021）
