This was passed down to the present as Prince Shotoku' s box. Patterns of linked circles, geometric shapes, and pictorial designs such as a child taming a lion, are depicted in mokuga ( wood inlay ) technique, using red sandalwood, ebony, ivory and dyed deer antler, etc. There are examples of mokuga in the Shosoin Treasures, but this box is considered to be made earlier, judging by its design.（「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003）
