Secluded Residence in a Cold Forest
- Taisho period, dated 1913
- color on silk
- hanging scroll
Paintings – Japanese / Asian Paintings
Komuro is a Nanga painter playing an active part mainly after the Taisho period, and this is his monumental work that won a prize at the Monbusho Bijutsu Tenrankai, purchased by the Imperial Household Ministry at the same time. Although the subject of a literary man reading books in a secluded residence among the mountains is traditional, a sharp modern sense unique to Komuro who attempted to innovate Nanga, lies in the composition based on vertical lines.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.2」2003)
