Paintings – Japanese / Asian Paintings

Hoshi Mandala is the principal image of worship in the Shingon esoteric Buddhism teaching praying for good health and tranquility. This painting is based on laws differing from the representative Kumeta Temple book style, and shows old style expressions in the red outlines of the buddhas and the kirikane ground patterns. It was passed on to Enryakuji Temple from some other Shingon sect temple, and offered to the Imperial family through the Tsushima So Family.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003)
