Crafts – Ceramics
Itaya Hazan, who was designated as Teishitsu Gigei-in (Imperial Court Artist) in 1934, was skillful at thin relief applying his wooden carving techniques. On this piece, he created realistic loquat fruits ripening on a branch in relief, covered with Hoko glaze which results in a mat tone. It was a gift from Tokyo city on the occasion of the wedding of Prince Yasuhito of Chichibu in 1928.(「Reviewing Modern Ceramics」2021)
