Seigaiha-nuri is a lacquer technique which is said to have been contrived by Seigai Kanshichi, a master craftsman of the Genroku era. The technique is used to express rippling waves, and gold and silver tacks are placed to express sprays. Handwriting by Tokugawa Mitsukuni is written in hira-makie on the reverse side of the lid, and it is considered to have been owned by Mitsukuni. （「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003）
