Hundred Otafuku
This is a congratulatory painting filled with female figures known as otafuku. Some are playing the strategic board game go, others are making rice cakes, and still others are weaving. The artist, Sakai Baisai, lived in the 7th district of Honmachi in Wakayama City, and excelled at making funny, madcap paintings, including those of Otafuku. He spent the latter half of his life in Tokyo, and is said to have been involved in the painting of Kaseyama ware in Kyoto and export ceramics in Kobe.（「Wakyama and the Imperial Family」2021）
