Old Oak, Monkeys, and Deer

Mori, superior in elaborate and minute animal expression based on sketches, was also eager to represent natural environment surrounding animals concretely and in detail. This is one of his representative works of this kind, depicting the trunk's bark expressed by layers of light ink or of moss by dripping technique expressing an atmosphere of the deep humid mountains of Japan.
