Writing Box and Paper Box with Spring and Autumn Landscapes under the Sun and Moon
Contrasting scenes of night and day are rendered in maki-e on the two boxes. On the writing box, the sun rises between mountains lined with cypress and cherry trees, while on the paper box, the full moon shines down on mountains covered in maples and pines.
