Set of a stationery box and ink-stone box with Uji-river and firefly design in makie
A piece decorated with fireflies flying about boisterously, at the Ujigawa river. The outside of the box is gold ground, and the bridge and stakes are expressed with kanagai ( gold plates ) creating a gorgeous scene brimming with gold. It has an inscription of Iizuka Toyo ( ?-1790 ), a makie craftsmen serving for Tokushima domain, and can be accurately dated. It was passed down within the Hachisuka family.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003)
