Set of a stationery stand and ink-stone box with narrow ivy road design in makie (transmitted in the imperial court)
The theme of these pieces are the scene when a hero travels east from Kyoto in the Tale of Ise. The ivy vines express Utsunoyama, and the oi (backpack) expresses the mountain ascetic who a hero entrusted a letter to a woman he left in Kyoto, also expressed within this design. It is gorgeously depicted with gold and silver plates together with taka-makie, decorated with sliver metal fittings in the form of exquisitely carved ivy, showing the spirit of the Momoyama era. （「Passing Art works to the Future」2013）
