Anthology "Kokin Wakashu", Hon'ami-gire Version
The name comes from the former owner, Hon'ami Koetsu( 1558-1637 ). Most of volume 16 and a part of volume 17 are connected into a scroll form. The characters are very small, smallest among the old calligraphy pieces. Though quite exfoliated, it is considered to be karagami(Chinese paper ), decorated with blue pigment, and lotus and arabesque patterns are printed with mica paint.
