There is a Mantis Behind

Hara Zaisho ( 1813-1871 ), acted as a painter serving the Imperial Palace, who participated in the construction of the Imperial Palace in the Ansei era. This painting depicts an allegory based on the historical event when the ruler of Chu Dynasty was attacking Jin, his minister thought only of immediate profit without consideration to later harm, figuratively treating the subjects as a cicada, a mantis, a sparrow and a child.
