Qiu Ying, active during the middle of the Ming Dynasty, was skilled in painting human figures, using minute depiction and beautiful colors. The theme of this work comes from historical events of Su Ruoｌan from Lie nu zhuan of Jin shu. It depicts the story where discreet and modest Ruoｌan was actually jealous towards her husband, and she composed a palindrome in regret. She weaved it into a brocade and sent it to him, and her husband was moved by this poem and they were reconciled. It is interesting work with Ruolan' s portrait at the first part of scroll, the palindrome next, followed by the story, and is noteworthy for its beautiful depiction. （「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003）
