Pair of cloisonné vases with design of flowers and birds on blue ground

A large vase created to decorate the Chigusa-no-ma hall of the Meiji Palace, which was completed in 1889. Various flowers mainly of the early summer, such as cotton roses, lilies, peonies, wisterias, narcissuses, cherry blossoms, Japanese globeflower, wild roses, rhododendron, dandelion, gardenia fruit, and a type of Japanese aster, are expressed realistically with musen shippo(wireless cloisonné). Among the flowers are wild birds such as blue-and-white flycatchers, Daurian redstarts, and waterfowls, expressed in the waterside scene on the back side.(「Flowers of Felicitations」2019)
