Wisterias and Peonies
Paintings for the interior decorations of Enryokan were commissioned to nihonga (Japanese style painting) painters from the Imperial Household Ministry in 1884, and 20 paintings of various sizes were created. In accordance with the interior space of Enryokan, framed paintings were adopted which were rare for nihonga at the time, and flower and arabesque patterns were applied in taka-makie (raised makie, or metal powder or flakes sprinkled on lacquer) on black lacquered frames.(「Auspicious Events of the Meiji Period」2018)
