This sword is known as Sozui Masamune because it was once owned by Mori Sozui ( Terumoto ). It is written in the Kyoho Meibutsucho that the attribution of this sword was changed from Yukimitsu to Masamune, and does show the style of the renowned sword smith Masamune. This sword was presented to Emperor Meiji from Tokugawa Iesato in 1887.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003) Sword Mountings in Tantō Type designed consulting swords and small knifes among the Shosoin Treasures and other old sword fittings.
