Scenes of the Tale of Genji and the Tale of Heike
On the right screen is the scene of the ceremony to celebrate the age 12 from Kiritsubo, in the Tale of Genji, and on the left screen is the scene where Minamoto no Yorimitsu kills the monstrous bird which menaced Emperor Konoe from Nue, in the Tale of Heike. Though the details are carefully depicted, the various expressions of the subjects, and the powerful depiction are characteristic. It is considered to be painted by the painters succeeding Matabei' s style.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003)
