Myriad Birds of Good Omens
Qian Xuan ( about 1235～after 1301 ) was skillful in poems, paintings and calligraphic works, and pursued realism in bird and flower paintings. Under the morning sun, birds of good omens such as a crane, pheasants, and mandarin ducks gather around a phoenix, which is the king of birds that appears when the world is in peace. The peony considered as the king of flowers, is depicted at the foot of the phoenix, and along with bamboos and a plum tree.
