Artificial Flower Decorations for the grand ceremony of Showa

- Showa period, 1928
- silver
Crafts – Metalworks
One of the furnishings presented to Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun at the great banquet of the Showa Era, when the silver branches were placed upon the sandy beach (suhama) mount. The suhama has been used traditionally as a furnishing for celebrations, and this piece depicts the landscapes of Hakozaki, Kanemisaki, Setagawa, Hirasan, based on the folk songs of the Yuki and Suki regions. Metal flowers were originally seasonal flowers worn in a crown at banquets which were replaced with artificial flowers, and at the Showa event, chrysanthemum and pine branches were selected.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003)
