Sculpture – Modeling

This is a part of Rodin's 'Gates of Hell'. It is a female statue enduring the rock's weight arranged in the niche upon the capital of a column on the left of 'Gates of Hell', appraised as a sculpture depicting the theme of human beings fighting with their tragic destinies which Rodin kept expressing in his works. It was cast as a detached piece from 'Gates of Hell' afterward. The one in our collection was offered by a Japanese society in Paris in 1921(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.2」2003)
