Paintings – Japanese / Asian Paintings

This is a three-volume set of picture scrolls depicting the Prince and Princess of Chichibu as they toured various sites related to Emperor Jinmu in Miyazaki Prefecture on the occasion of the 2600th anniversary of Emperor Jinmu’s Eastern Expedition at Miyazaki Shrine in 1934. Noda Kyuho, who accompanied the Prince and Princess, painted the scrolls based on sketches he made during the journey. Although Kyuho was known as a painter of historical scenes, most of these scrolls show quiet scenes in nature. (「The Imperial Family and Miyazaki Prefecture」2021)
