Scenes of the Genesis of Japan

- color on paper
Paintings – Japanese / Asian Paintings
These were made to celebrate the 2600 year since the enthronement of the first emperor, which is 1940, where eleven scenes from the myth of the genesis of Japan are depicted, from ‛Hanging Over the Nation from Okuninusi no Mikoto' to the ‛Enthronement of the Emperor Jinmu'. Words are by Onoe Saishu, illustrations are by nine representative painters of Nihonga taking part in the Nihon Bijutsuin Tenrankai and the governmental exhibition. Each painting is refined featuring clear grasping of shape, dignified lines and restrained color arrangement, showing a contemporary trend of neo-classicism in Nihonga.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.2」2003)
