Calligraphy – Japanese Calligraphy

A waka poem written on a rather small shikishi card decorated with sketches of maple leaves on waves. The poem comes from Kokin Wakashu, volume 8, "parting poem" number 385. There is a piece known as Imashiro-gire which is also attributed to Masatsune ( 1170-1221 ), but that piece does not have the chirashigaki style of writing as seen in this piece. There is a copy of this within Yorakuin-mosha Tekagami.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003)
