Paintings – Japanese / Asian Paintings

The title written on the lid of the box is "Sleeping Chinese Boy by Nagasawa Rosetsu", but what is depicted here is a sleeping Japanese baby with a red bib. Nagasawa Rosetsu ( 1754-99 ) is a painter who showed a unique painting style even within the Maruyama School, and the essence of Rosetsu can be seen in the relieving feeling in this piece. It is considered to be the work of Rosetsu' s later years by the signature and seal.
