The title written on the lid of the box is "Sleeping Chinese Boy by Nagasawa Rosetsu", but what is depicted here is a sleeping Japanese baby with a red bib. Nagasawa Rosetsu ( 1754-99 ) is a painter who showed a unique painting style even within the Maruyama School, and the essence of Rosetsu can be seen in the relieving feeling in this piece.
