Paintings – Japanese / Asian Paintings

Wang Mian was a painter of mostly plum trees, and a poet. The theme of this painting is from his poem depicting the beauty of white plum flowers shining in the moonlight at the Xihu lake, and the expression of contrast of light and dark ink is excellent. It was transmitted as a pair with 'Bamboo and Rocks' by Li Kan according to the unique Japanese style of appreciating Chinese paintings since the Muromachi period, where originally different works were paired together.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003)
