Tsuzure nishiki (polychrome compound weave) with designs of phoenixes and auspicious clouds is affixed on both sides of the fan, and a total of 1600 pearls are applied on various parts. It was created by Mikimoto Kokichi (1858-1954) who was the first person worldwide to be successful in the cultivation of pearls.
