Paintings – Japanese / Asian Paintings

Yamaguchi learned from Matsuoka Eikyu, and joined his attempt to reform and innovate the tradition of Yamatoe painting from the late Taisho to early Showa era. This brought him recognition winning the highest prize in the Teikoku Bijutsuin Tenrankai and the second Teikoku Bijutsuin Tenrankai prize and also purchased by the Imperial Household. The Kumano Nada ( an open sea ) at morning, the Three Main Shrines of Kumano at daytime, mountain ranges of Kumano from the evening to night and dawn sky are depicted from the foreground to background. It is an application of the hand scroll, a representative form of Yamatoe painting, which depicts time from right to left on an oblong screen, showing the best results of his creation of new Yamatoe painting.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.2」2003)
