Crafts – Lacquerware

Born in Kuroe, Hashizume Yoshio began exhibiting chests and shelves with plant motifs at the Nitten Exhibition in 1947, and was awarded the Wakayama Prefecture Culture Prize in 1967. This modern vase was made by carefully applying layers of lacquer and carving mitsumata trees onto it and the governer of Wakayama Prefecture presented to Emperor Showa in 1962. This work, Dry Lacquer Vase, could be the same work as Row of Trees, which was exhibited at the Nitten Exhibition the previous year.(「Wakyama and the Imperial Family」2021)
