Paintings – Japanese / Asian Paintings

An album with a part of each chapter of the Tale of Genji, and a scene depicting it on poetry paper. The writing is by 54 princes and court nobles, including Konoe Nobuhiro ( 1599-1649 ). The pictures are attributed to Tosa Mitsunori ( 1583-1638 ), but judging from the scarce background, the numerous soft gold clouds, and the long faces of the human figures, it may be considered to be an early example of Mitsunori' s son Mitsuoki ( 1617-91 ) in spite of the many old style depictions.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.1」2003)
