Historical Materials – Coin

The oldest Japanese gold coin cast in March 760. According to Saidai-ji Nikki ( Diary of Saidaiji Temple), it was excavated from the West pagoda in Saidaiji Temple in Nara, on April 19th, 1794. There are no other of this kind except the thirty-one coins found from around the Okunoin in Saidaiji Temple. Considered to be one of the objects for purifying the ground, it is precious being in the best condition among all of them.
