Crafts – Metalworks

The shape of this bowl was based on a wooden boat with a unique appearance used by the Tao people, an Austronesian ethnic group native to Taiwan, for fishing. It is decorated with a water buffalo symbolizing a Taiwanese farming village. The design was executed by Nakagawa Eishu, and the engraving was done by Ametani Yumin and Watanabe Banri. It was a gift to Crown Prince Hirohito (Emperor Showa) from Takada Tomizo, Governor of Taipei Province, when the Crown Prince visited Taiwan in April, 1923.(「The Modern Age」2015)
