Sculpture – Wood Carvings
In the early Meiji era, there were many wooden relief works in the shape of a framed picture featuring picturesque composition. This is a typical example depicting Minamoto no Yoshitsune with a bow in his left hand stopping for a moment drawing his reins on the shore. The carving technique is elaborate even in detail, showing its high level depiction.(「New Edition Grace, Beauty and Inqenuity-Masterpices of the Museum of Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan Vol.2」2003)
