In 1887, Emperor Meiji ordered Prime Minister Ito Hirobumi to inspect Kyushu and Okinawa regions. Yamamoto Hosui, who had just returned from his study in France, was requested by Ito to accompany him and depict the regional climate and culture of Okinawa.(「Between Seas and Mountains」2020)
